Do You Have an Erosion Problem?
Stormwater washes phosphorus and other pollutants into the lake, and that's not good. You may be contributing to the problem if you have:
- Water flowing into the lake from roofs and patios, driveways, camp roads, or public roads
- Bare soil near the lake (including gardens and footpaths)
- Steep bankings that are not well stabilized by plants
- Lawns that slope down to the lake (yes, they're pretty, but they're not good for the lake)
If you have any of these problems, you may be able to get free expert technical advice on how to improve your property. Contact PPA, RWPA, or the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District (see the links section from the PPA home page) for more information.

For Do-it-Yourselfers
There is information available to help you construct erosion-control features, select the right plants, etc. For a good source of information, check here. (You may have to browse through several pages of pubications to find the one you're looking for*.) That said, though, it would be a very good idea to let us check your needs and be sure your project is designed for the greatest benefit to the lake. And we can discuss any regulatory concerns you might encounter, too.
* Choose "Environmental Fact Sheets" in the selection box near the top of the page, where it says "Any," then click "Apply." At the bottom of the page, note that there are several pages of offerings listed. Check through the entire list to see if there's something that fills your need.
